Nyusi inaugurates Mahel photovoltaic plant

Mahel (Mozambique), May 10 (FUNAE, FP) - The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, today inaugurated the Mahel Photovoltaic Plant, in the Magude district of Maputo province, as part of the government's efforts to increase access to energy for more Mozambicans.

It is a project entirely financed by the state budget with the capacity to generate 100 kWp, store 640 kWh and produce 182.50 MWh annually.

A total of 132 connections have been made to its 12.3-kilometer network, including the Administrative Post building, a school, a health center, seven commercial establishments and 117 homes, among other beneficiaries. Mahel's network is also connected to 109 lamps (88 connected to the network) and the rest are autonomous.

Speaking on the occasion, Filipe Nyusi said that the increase in the availability of quality energy in Mahel is a driving force behind the economic development of that part of the province.

"We are giving meaning to life in the face of the growing population of Mahel and the impact is visible in the daily lives of the residents of this post," said Nyusi, pointing out that the connection will alleviate the costs of residents traveling to the town of Magude in search of services that depend on the energy resource.

According to Nyusi, energy should promote investment in the productive sector, which exploits the potential of the administrative post.

The inauguration ceremony of the Mahel mini-grid was attended by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias; the President of the Board of Directors (PCA) of FUNAE, FP, Isália Dimene, various figures from the provincial government and other guests.
